For this project we are working on portraiture, which is a drawing of a person.
The portraits we create will be painted with a MONOCHROMATIC color scheme (MONO meaning ONE and CHROMA meaning COLOR) or one color. For our paintings, we will utilize one color (as it appears out of the tube), one SHADE of that color (the color plus black) and two TINTS of that color (the color plus white).

To begin, first search for a hi-resolution image of a person who interests you. This can be an image of a person you find on the internet or a photo you take yourself. To know if an image is hi-resolution look for the set of numbers on the bottom left of the image when you move your cursor over it in the google image search, the higher the number - the higher the resolution...
Next, develop a 4 Layer Monochromatic Image using Pixlr.com Editor (see details on Google classroom).
After you develop your image and it is printed, trace or graphite transfer your drawing onto a piece of 12" x 18" Drawing paper
Develop a value range of ONE color using acrylic paint.
Once your figure is painted, think about a detailed, fully developed background the RELATES TO YOUR CHARACTER. Your background should be painted and should relate to your figure.

- Create 2 TINTS of one color by mixing it with white. Mix a slightly lighter and VERY lighter version of that color. These colors will be the two lightest on your computer printout.
- Next, create a SHADE of that same color by mixing it with black, this will be the darkest value range on your computer printout.
- The original color you started with will painted in place of the DARK GRAY on your computer printout.
