Ceramic Head Vessels
We will be creating a head that can be used as a vessel (can hold things).
This head (real or imagined) should be a minimum of 5" tall and approx. 5" x 5" in width.
Pinch, Coil, and Slab building should all be used in the construction of your head.
All elements must be scored and slipped together and smoothed out.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because this head will take multiple days to sculpt, keeping your clay moist in between class periods and over the weekend is CRITICAL. Wet paper towels and the spray bottle should be used to keep the clay damp and sculptable while tightly wrapped up in your plastic bag.
Your sculpture must be some thing NEW and ORIGINAL...
NOT A COPY OF SOMETHING FROM THE INTERNET!!
To start, sketch out about 4-5 drawings of cartoon style faces.
Things to think about:
Elongated or exaggerated features.
Famous people or monster type characters.
Types of accessories could be found on a head (piercings, warts, headphones etc.).
A time period that could be interesting to represent.
Once finished with your drawings, decide which works best and get started. Save all of your drawings as part of your grade.
When completed, you will turn in your 4-5 drawings, a sketch of your head, an artist statement, and your final project to be graded.
